Product Description Cut a scene from the USA Network television series Monk, create a promo for Seaworld’s Belief documentary, and master filters and effects as you edit a segment of BBC Motion Gallery's Living Colour documentary. Completely revised for Final Cut Pro 6 and featuring all-new footage, this best-selling, Apple-certified guide provides a strong foundation in all aspects of video editing. Renowned author Diana Weynand starts with basic video editing techniques and takes you all the way through Final Cut Pro’s powerful advanced features. Each chapter presents a complete lesson in an aspect of video editing and finishing, using actual broadcast footage. After marking and editing clips to create a rough cut, you’ll learn how to trim and refine the cut before moving on to complex tasks such as mixing sound, adding titles, creating transitions and motion effects, applying filters, real-time color correcting, and working with multi-format and multi-camera footage.

The most important book in the series November 21, 2009 Dimitri Vorontzov The rest of them builds on the foundation of this book. A little over six hundred pages of material, it provides the reader with the thorough practical knowledge of the most fundamental tools of Final Cut Editing. Any of the more advanced techniques described in the following books are based on simpler methods described here. Extremely useful and practical book.
Excellent Resource October 21, 2009 T. H. Dicke (Los Angeles CA USA) This book does a great job of going through the various components of Final Cut Pro. I've been working with the software for some time--mainly taught by friends and by stumbling through until something worked. I wish I'd known this was an option much earlier. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Learning Final Cut Pro September 24, 2009 C. C. Murphy (Traverse City, MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is essential for learning FCP. Make sure you take full advantage of time code (mini DV tapes) to speed up your time at the computer. Here is a tip though, if you are using the DVD at a class outside of the home, make a copy to take to class. I left mine behind and some other student did not turn it in (I think this is called stealing) and I no longer have the excellent clips to continue learning with. You can use the book to just learn the basics or dive in deeper to take it to the next level. I see digital video editing as one of those life time learning skills that you can develop from now until you release your final DVD.
Happy editing!
Great Starter Guide! June 30, 2009 K.S. (San Jose, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is great for both completely new users and users with basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro. The book is easy to understand, has lots of color screenshots on almost every page, and it's set up with lessons that build your skills in Final Cut Pro. The lessons have extensive detail and give you how-to projects. The projects simulate "real world" editing and the media on the DVD is from real television shows and films. Fantastic!
It's a nice supplement to the user manuals included with FCS2, it's well organized, it's printed on quality paper, it comes with a DVD that's chock full of media, and it's in color!
Four stars instead of Five because of the high price point (For the price, I wish they would have combined this book with "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 6 Beyond the Basics").
Great book June 27, 2009 L. Goldfine (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Apple Pro Training Series is a terrific book for the beginner or just someone like me trying to learn a different editing system. It comes complete with a DVD that holds the media and data you need to follow the book step-by-step fairly easily. Forget about buying it if you don't currently have Final Cut installed on your computer. The step-by step instructions would be useless. Another great plus is the 45 days you get to use an online version of the book. Very handy when you're on the road and want to leave the book at home and still practice. My only critique would be that sometimes it's a little slower than I'd like and lacks a chapter on more advanced editing. It could also use a removable card that has all the keyboard shortcuts needed. This book was a great help to me and well-worth the price.
